Okay. It’s Friday the 13th here in Manila. Being in a very superstitious country, I somehow managed my way to my hellhole somewhere in Makati. I expect a lot of mishaps and a fair share of shockers today, and somehow, it’s all coming true.
REGAL SHOCKER NO. 1: JESSICA SANCHEZ BOOTED OUT OF AMERICAN IDOL (BUT JUDGES SAVED HER)
Yeah, she’s Pinay as well, but I support her not for that but she’s got the most talent, heart, and soul in that competition. America got it all wrong. Here are my thoughts:
- Jessica manged to impress the judges so much that they used their save vote for her. But this is a vote-based competition. She should be careful on her song choices to impress the voters. Pick something that the audience can relate to. Viewers of American Idol are not technical people who could distinguish a flawless performance from a so-so one. Songs should be those that the voting population knows.
- Jessica’s supporters should vote for her. I have this belief that all others thought that Jessica would not hit the bottom three even if they won’t vote for her, she’s that good. They tend to focus on other contestants that they think are going home. Complacency.
- A few standing ovations from the judges won’t guarantee a win. Jessica had some, and Joshua was given one last night. Still, they are both in the bottom three, together with another great talent, Elise.
I was not shocked by the fact that the judges saved her (I expected that), I was shocked by the fact that she had a trip to the Bottom Three. Following Idol history, this is either Colton’s or Philip’s game. Where’s the love, America? Change history’s course and vote for an actual performer. Geesh.
REGAL SHOCKER NO. 2: NORTH KOREA’S FAILED ROCKET LAUNCH (THANK GOODNESS!)
$815M just went on air for seconds landed back. What a waste of money. That amount could feed millions of North Koreans for real, and it is so distressing that it was used for a failed rocket launch. Despite worldwide calls for them to stop, NoKor defied all odds and pulled-off this failed attempt. Epic Fail. I just hope and pray that they’ll stop trying to push for this and focus on the advancement of their country and their people more.
REGAL SHOCKER NO. 3: ANOTHER EXPLODING JOKE LEAVES PLANE STRANDED FOR HOURS (THEY NEVER LEARN)
A group was refused to board a plane bound to Puerto Princesa, Palawan because of a bomb scare. This guy, a devout Muslim, refused to be seated next to a lady and told everybody that if he cannot get the seat he wants, he’ll blow off the plane. Thanks to his stubbornness and unwillingness to cooperate, all other passengers are subjected again to thorough x-ray examinations and other security routines. Apparently, he completely forgot the not-so-long-ago incident that gave an actor a trip to the hot seat. Well now, the joke’s on him.
REGAL SHOCKER NO. 4: MISTER-TURNED-MISS ALLOWED TO COMPETE FOR THE TITLE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE (ULTIMATE SHOCKER)
I have the highest respect for our LGBT Brothers and Sisters and I am all-in for equality and all that, but in my honest opinion, this is just wrong. This decision may give equality and is a huge victory to the LGBT community but is not fair for ladies all over the world. I’m not bitter about this, but I think that one of the main qualities of a Ms. Universe is a natural beauty, inside and out. I am a bisexual myself, but I also respect the right of men and women and know where I stand. Acceptance of who you are, whether straight, gay, lesbian, or transgender, is the highest form of respect one can give himself. Trying real hard to fit in by completely stepping onto somebody else’s foot is just not right. Much respect, Loves.
